1994 BC CUP 2011
BARRY HOGAN - COLIN HEADRICK
JUNIOR GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP
The BC Cup Foundation, Inc. is pleased to announce its partnership with the newly-founded Kelly Gibson Junior Golf Tour. The BC Cup Foundation was established for the benefit of worthy junior golfers in the southeast Louisiana area. Host of the annual BC Cup Invitational Golf Tournament each summer at Money Hill Golf and Country Club, the Foundation awards college scholarships annually based on financial need, academic achievement, community service, and love of the game of golf.
Since 2006, the BC Cup Foundation has awarded its college scholarships under the auspices of the Fore!Kids Foundation. In 2009, the BC Cup Foundation raised $25,000 of the $33,000 in total scholarship money granted by the Fore!Kids Foundation, the BC Cup Foundation, and the New Orleans Golf Association. Two $5,000 scholarships and six $2,500 scholarships were given to 4 young men and 4 young women; the money is sent directly to the student’s college or university to defray tuition and book expense.
The BC Cup Foundation was founded by local golf professionals Jimmy Headrick and Tim Hogan in memory of their sons, Colin Headrick and Barry Hogan. Says Tim Hogan, Director of Golf at Money Hill, “When I learned that (PGA Tour Professional) Kelly Gibson had formed a junior golf tour and that Brad White was its Executive Director, the decision to partner with the Kelly Gibson Junior Golf Tour was easy. Brad did an excellent job running the junior golf program for the Fore!Kids Foundation, and we knew he was just the right person to get Kelly’s program off the ground.” Jimmy Headrick adds, “The Fore!Kids Foundation will still be our partner, but now the junior golf program will be spearheaded by the Kelly Gibson Junior Golf Tour. We believe that Kelly’s leadership will help us further our goal of being the largest private donor of college scholarships in the New Orleans area.”
Lindsey Ladouceur, a member of the BC Cup’s Board of Directors, emphasizes that these are not “golf scholarships” and that golfing skill and ability are not criteria which are considered. “We happen to choose our recipients from participants in the junior golf program, but we look at the total individual and how the lessons learned from playing golf have made him or her a better person and more responsible citizen,” says Ms. Ladouceur.
The BC Cup Foundation is now accepting tax-deductible donations in any amount. Contributions may be mailed to 100 Country Club Drive, Abita Springs, LA 70420.
